Our annual Gala Fundraiser will be held Saturday evening, March 22nd. This year’s theme is Bohemian Dream: A Night of Fortune and Whimsy in the Heart of a Caravan. The Gala is a festive evening for our adult community to celebrate and support our wonderful school. The evening’s activities include raffles, a Live Auction & Special Appeal, hors d’oeuvres from Prasad, Julia’s Kitchen & Dan’s Delights, a sumptuous buffet dinner provided by Whole Foods Market, all followed by delectable dessert offerings from our school community. Other offerings of the evening include: Krsangi Davis performing  a Classical Indian Temple Dance; professional event portraits available from Noah Katz of NJK Photography, Tarot Readings with Betsy Kabrick, Rainbow Crystal Gem Readings with Rebekah Gardner and Personalized Poems by Helene Rose, topped off by live music from the Gypsy Swing Review to dance the night away!

Additionally, we will be hosting an Online Silent Auction in support of the fundraising efforts of the Gala.

Q:  When and where is the event?
A:  Saturday, March 22nd | 5-11pm | SMWS Festival Hall on the Lower School Campus

Q: What is the cost and when will tickets be on sale?
A:  Individual advance tickets are $45. Tickets at the door will be $55 per person. For tickets, please go to https://smws.schoolauction.net/auction2014/register/ticket_sales.

Q:  What is the attire for the evening?

However, if you prefer to dress more simply, please feel free to wear whatever attire makes you feel comfortable and festive.

Q:  What is the Special Appeal?
A:  During the course of the Live Auction the community will be asked to contribute to a Special Appeal. The Special Appeal is selected each year by the Shining Mountain faculty and is typically an item that impacts the experience of the students in a direct way. Past Special Appeals have been items such as SolaTubes to bring natural light into the classrooms, school buses for field trips and athletics, new desks for all of the classrooms, a makeover for the High School Science Lab, and most recently, Updated equipment and costumes for the Performing Arts Program.

This year’s Special Appeal is focused on beautifying some of our sacred interior and exterior spaces on campus.  By doing so we move closer to reflecting on the outside that beauty which each of our children receive each day from their teachers and the rich curriculum.  Please consider making a gift to help make the invisible gifts of Shining Mountain visible and to support the continuation of our children’s healthy development.  Following are the projects:

  • Beautifying and revitalizing our Eurythmy room space.
  • A garden passage to mark the meaningful Lower School to High School transition.
  • A new greenhouse and fairy garden in the Lower School through which our children can observe and imagine the wonders of life.

Q.  Will there be a $5,000 Cash Prize Raffle again this year?
A.  YES! Back by popular demand, we will have a $5,000 Cash Prize Raffle where 100 tickets at $100 each will be sold for a 1/100 chance to win $5,000 cash and also benefit our beloved school! Tickets for the $5,000 Cash Prize Raffle will go on sale the week of March10th.

Q:  How are we making this event in line with our Sustainability Mission?
A:  We are doing all of our invitations, ticket sales and registration online! This will save the school the cost of printed invitations, as well as following our best practice model in terms of sustainability. Your support of these steps to come more in line with our Green Star status are greatly appreciated! We also encourage you to carpool or use alternative modes of transportation to the event.

FAQ’s About the Online Silent Auction

Q.  When will we be able to browse the Online Silent Auction?
A.  The Online Silent Auction will go live on Friday, March 7th. We will send an email out to the community with instructions and a link to the auction on that day.

Q.  How can I contribute an item to the Online Silent Auction?
A.   PDF versions of the solicitation instructions and procurement forms may be found here: http://shiningmountainwaldorf.org/bohemiandream/procurement-resources/. You may print these out and use them to solicit your favorite local businesses or to donate an item personally. Alternatively, you may pick up forms in the office or bring items to the Fundraising & Outreach Coordinator, Mary Fairfield, on the 2nd floor of the Community House.

Q.  What is the deadline for contributing an item to the Online Silent Auction?
A.  The soft deadline for contributions is Friday, February 28th. Items will still be gratefully accepted and included in the Online Auction after the procurement deadline, but may not be uploaded to the site until after the auction opens on Friday, March 7th.

FAQ’s About Volunteering

Q:  How can I be involved in the Gala?
A:  We have volunteer positions available for many aspects of the Gala. Please contact Mary Fairfield, Fundraising & Outreach Coordinator, if you are interested in participating at 303.951.8581 or maryf@smwaldorf.org.

Additionally, a Gala Volunteer Signup will go out through the Class Parent distribution list to all of the classes before the event. There are many ways to participate: helping make decorations before the event, assisting with event set up and decorating in the Festival Hall, making a dessert offering, volunteering for various needed positions on the event night, and helping with the event breakdown at its end.

Q:  Is it possible to receive complimentary admission to the Gala in exchange for volunteer work?
A:  Yes, there are several volunteer jobs for the night of the event that receive a complimentary admission to the Gala. Please contact Mary Fairfield for details.
