You know those special coaches who teach their players, much more than just how to cross a soccer ball, or hit behind the runner? Those coaches that make you smile when you think of them 20 years later because they taught you how to handle disappointment or develop a work ethic, or—hold your breath for this one—respect an official who just made a questionable call? Well, thanks to the Daniels Fund, you can click here to honor those coaches by nominating them for PCA’s Double-Goal Coach® Award >>.
The Daniels Fund—the foundation responsible for bringing a PCA Chapter to Colorado—is raising the profile of PCA’s model of the Double-Goal Coach, who strives to win while pursuing the even more important goal of seizing the endless opportunities sports provide to teach valuable life lessons.
Colorado icon and multiple-state-champion high school coach Dave Logan will serve as spokesperson for the initiative, and promotional ads and PCA educational messages will air on KOA and other Clear Channel outlets between September 2013 and May 2014. Award-winning coaches will receive $250 and an additional $750 will go to a youth sports organization or high school of the coach’s choosing to bring PCA workshops to their coaches, parents or athletes.
“Our founder, Bill Daniels, believed that participation in sports and access to quality coaches help to develop discipline, confidence teamwork, and sportsmanship,” explained Linda Childears, president and CEO of the Daniels Fund. “We are pleased to provide support to the Positive Coaching Alliance that will allow them to recognize outstanding coaches in our community and expand access to the Double-Goal Coach training program.”
Winning coaches will be interviewed on-air on The Dave Logan Show. Nominations will be accepted through December 31.

Girls’ High School Basketball 2-a-Days!!!
The Colorado State XC Championships will be held Saturday, October 26 in Colorado Springs. Our girls run at 9:20am and our boy runs at 11:30am. Come down and cheer them on!!! This is the first time in school history that we have qualified a team for State.
Our middle school XC team participated in the State meet on 10/19. The team had an awesome season with numerous personal records and season bests. Check out this LINK for the girls’ results and this LINK for the boys’ results.
When your child’s Responsible Coach redefines “winner” through a mastery approach to coaching, reinforce the coach’s approach. Instead of focusing on the scoreboard, remember the ELM Tree of Mastery for Effort, Learning and Mistakes are OK (because mistakes help us learn, but fear of mistakes helps us fail).

HUTTON SHINES ON MOUNTAIN
The course at the Lyons High School felt a little tougher than it normally would have to Shining Mountain’s Ginger Hutton, who had little time to prepare after playing a late volleyball game against Belleview Christian on Friday night.
That hindrance didn’t stop the Lions junior from finishing in 20:10 to take second in the 2A/3A race behind Lyons’ Miriam Roberts.
“Racing against Miriam is fun. She is really fast,” Hutton said. “I was a little tired but I just wanted to run my heart out.”
Hutton teamed with Paisley Sheehan. Ella Baca and Miranda Seim to help the Lions finish eighth in the team scoring.
