The Pentathlon is an athletic event based on the ancient Greek games hosted by Shining Mountain that includes fifth grade children from other Waldorf Schools. Our school typically hosts over 100 children from Shining Mountain, Shepherd Valley Waldorf School, Santa Fe Waldorf School, Denver Waldorf School, Waldorf School on the Roaring Fork, Mt. Phoenix School (Coal Creek campus), and Taos Country Day. The children are grouped into City States, and each City State participates in six athletic events including: Discus, Wrestling, Long Jump, Long Run, Sprint, and Javelin. After all events are completed, a male and female Pentathlete is selected from each City/State. Included in the Pentathlon are beautiful opening and closing ceremonies and a luncheon hosted by Shining Mountain.
