The Shining Mountain Circus Troupe features youth performers from 5th Grade and up, learning multiple circus arts, while working together to create a springtime performance highlighting their new skills. Ground skills which are showcased include: tight wire balancing, tumbling, juggling, clowning, riding unicycles, hula hoop arts, rolling globes, high stilts, acro-balance and more. Aerial skills include trapeze, lyra and fabric. All of these circus arts are woven into a different story every year creating a wonderful journey of the imagination for the audience!
Why Circus Arts?
Circus Arts help develop students’ brain function and intelligence, engage their sense for artistic beauty, and build strong will forces. They provide a healthy form of joyous play, self-discipline, and a hunger for learning.
Circus Arts encourage the individual student to be BIG, with the ability to move freely into the space around them. They build healthy rhythm through practice and perseverance, which pours over into their academic life. They allow and encourage mistakes, building courage and developing confidence as the students’ skills improve daily.
Our emphasis in class is on safety, fun and collaboration. Each year, 25-50 students and 10 instructors participate in the program. Each student is involved in numerous acts and has multiple costumes. The goal of our performances is not to bring a highly polished product, but to give the students the opportunity to share their enthusiasm for circus and the skills they have learned in a fun, cooperative and joyous presentation.
The public performance of the 2017 Youth Circus event will be held on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at 2pm.
