Middle School Class Teacher

Shining Mountain Waldorf School (SMWS) is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic candidate with Waldorf teacher training for the 2025-2026 school year. SMWS currently has a 1-5 and 6-8 class teacher rotation system. The Middle School Class teacher carries primary responsibility for teaching the middle school curriculum, grades 6-8.  The sixth grade teacher is supported by an experienced team of subject teachers including a math specialist, language arts, cyber civics, art, choir, orchestra, world language and physical education. Restorative practice work throughout the school also supports class health and faculty and staff collaboration.

The teacher leading Grade 6 for the 25-26 school year will continue with their class through 8th grade, with the potential to loop back around to 6th after three years.

The ideal candidate has a BA/BS or more advanced degree, is Waldorf-trained or interested in embarking on certification, and has some teaching experience. Familiarity with social health/restorative practices, Waldorf remedial training/experience, and an understanding of place based education are pluses. 

SMWS is a prekindergarten through 12th grade school. We offer the full breadth of the Waldorf curriculum, which includes two world languages (Spanish and German), woodworking, handwork, movement, instrumental and choral music. The majority of our full time faculty members are Waldorf trained teachers and represent a rich spectrum of life experiences along with their strength as Waldorf educators. 

SMWS has celebrated over 40 years of bringing Waldorf education to the beautiful community of Boulder, Colorado. The school is fully accredited by both the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA) and the Association of Colorado Independent Schools (ACIS). Additionally, there is an active Anthroposophical community in the Denver/Boulder area.

Boulder is located in the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, about a 45 minute drive from Denver. It is at the heart of the organic food industry, with an award-winning farmers’ market, and many local organic bakeries and farms. The University of Colorado and numerous local organizations provide a rich variety of arts, lectures and workshops, many of which employ the talents of local community members. The quiet beauty of the natural environment offers contemplative pastimes and a full range of outdoor recreation, including world-class ski areas, and many national parks and forests.

We have a highly competent administrative function with a School Director, Admission Director, Development Director, Human Resources Director, Marketing Director, Campus Operations Director, and Business Director. 

We offer a competitive Waldorf-trained base salary, along with years of experience.  Our base salary for Waldorf Trained teachers is $53,725 and years of teaching experience paid at $850 per year. Job Title:   Eurythmy Teacher – School Year 25/26  

Program: Lower School

Reports to: School Director

Position Summary

Eurythmy is a central element of our curriculum, and our dedicated eurythmy spaces, including a specialized classroom, and recital hall, enable rich artistic exploration.  Eurythmy is an expressive movement of harmonious body movements to the rhythm of the spoken word and music.  SMWS has an outstanding faculty who foster a spirit of collaboration and innovation and are deeply committed to Waldorf pedagogy and anthroposophy. Our program includes eurythmy, games & movement, choir, guitar & orchestra, handwork, arts, woodwork, as well as Spanish and German. 

Shining Mountain Waldorf School faculty share a vision of teaching excellence that centers around a pedagogy rooted in Waldorf education principles, best academic teaching practices, and a regular examination of curricular content that signifies our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Teach eurythmy to students across a wide range of grade levels, from early childhood through high school. The current schedule includes 2 x 40-minute periods in grades 1-8, 2 x 30-minute periods for combined grades 9/10, and 2 x 30-minute periods for combined grades 11/12, all within a 5-week block. Additionally, there are three early childhood groups, each having eurythmy once a week for 15 – 20 minutes

Teach middle school social dance (swing, foxtrot, cha-cha, waltz) to prepare students for biannual dances with other Waldorf schools

Collaborate closely with class teachers to integrate eurythmy into the broader Waldorf curriculum, enhancing both the academic and artistic experiences of the students

Foster a supportive, respectful, and creative classroom environment that encourages students to explore eurythmic movement, self-expression, and imagination

Plan and deliver age-appropriate lessons that promote personal growth while strengthening the class community and interpersonal connections

Actively participate in faculty meetings and committees, contributing to the development of the school’s artistic and academic programs, as well as initiatives related to social health and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)

Lead eurythmy sessions at in-service days and conferences, bridging the varied skills and knowledge of eurythmy within the faculty, helping to inspire and unify the community

Prepare students for public performances, showcasing their growth and mastery of eurythmy, while building their confidence and sense of accomplishment

Contribute to the vibrant festival life of the school by preparing student performances and working collaboratively with colleagues to develop meaningful, engaging events

Contribute equitably to recess duties and substitution periods as needed, ensuring a well-balanced workload

Educate parents about the significance and benefits of eurythmy through parent evenings and parent-teacher conferences, fostering a deeper understanding of this artistic practice within the broader school community

Support class teachers in class plays and other performances upon request, integrating eurythmy as appropriate to enrich the experience

Stay informed and current on trends, best practices, and new developments in both eurythmy and Waldorf education, engaging in ongoing professional growth

Additional Responsibilities

  • In accordance with the SMWS philosophy, the person filling this position may occasionally be required to carry out or assist with other tasks in accordance with the duties listed above.

Salary, Hours, and Benefits

SMWS offers a teaching base salary along with years of teaching experience; a comprehensive employee benefit program, professional development, and tuition remission for enrolled children.

  • Full time salary position
  • Waldorf-trained base salary of $46,217, along with years of experience. 
  • Faculty members are paid monthly with annual Agreements – July – June each year

  • Faculty receive 3 personal days and 7 sick days each school year

Job Title: Middle School Volleyball Head Coach

Program: Athletics

Reports to: Athletic Director

FLSA Status: Exempt 

Date: June 2025

Position Summary

Coach and mentor middle school student-athletes (grades 6–8) in volleyball, with the bigger goal of teaching personal mastery, teamwork, resilience, and other life lessons through the game.

Middle School Volleyball Season Dates: The competitive season is approximately 10 weeks from August 27th through October 27th, with additional pre-season and postseason activities included. 

Practices/Matches: 

  • The team averages three events per week, which include a mix of practices and matches.
  • During the regular season:
    • Practices occur once or twice per week and last 90 minutes, starting at 3:15 PM.
    • Matches are typically scheduled once or twice per week, split between home and away.
  • When numbers allow, we field two teams (Gold and Maroon) with back-to-back games on match days.
  • Matches may begin as early as 4:00 PM, often on the same day as high school matches.
  • Shining Mountain competes in the 5280 League with similarly sized private schools.
  • Travel is required for away games throughout the Denver metro and Front Range area.

Note: The Middle School Volleyball Coach will have the option to coach middle school volleyball camp in July or August for additional pay outside of the in-season coaching term. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Honor the Shining Mountain Waldorf School Coaching Code of Ethics and practice the principles of a Double-Goal Coach (orientation and training provided). 
  • Teaching of the fundamental skills and tactics in ways that are developmentally appropriate and fun. 
  • Practice planning, set up and preparation and post practice clean up and close down. 
  • Game strategy and rotation planning and in-game team management.
  • Co-host pre-season parent meetings and postseason recognition banquets with the Athletic Director.
  • Support the Athletic Director with team related administrative duties when needed. 
  • Clear, effective, and timely communication with the Athletic Director regarding team related logistics, student-athlete concerns, parent relations, and all other team related matters. 
  • Ability to successfully perform the physical requirements of the position including setting up and taking down nets and other equipment related tasks. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.  

Qualifications

  • Values in alignment with the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) and the principles of Double-Goal Coaching.
  • Volleyball specific knowledge including but not limited to the rules, tactics, foundational skills, and teaching progressions.
  • Previous experience coaching or teaching adolescents and/or pre-teens. 
  • Youth volleyball coaching experience preferred.

Required Trainings (provided and paid for by SMWS) 

  • CPR/First Aid/AED training
  • Concussion awareness training
  • Positive Coaching Alliance Double-Goal Coach training 
  • School bus training when applicable 

Compensation:

  • Base stipend of $1,000 for the season with additional compensation based on experience.  
  • Opportunities to earn bonuses for consecutive years coaching, assuming additional responsibilities, and coaching the summer Volleyball Camp.

Job Title: Substitute Teacher  

Program: Grades 1 through Grade 12

Reports to: Campus Operations Director

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary

Shining Mountain Waldorf School, a PreK to High School, is seeking Substitute Teachers. In order to create an encouraging learning environment for students while their regular Teacher is absent, our Substitute Teachers will need to effectively manage and instruct the class. We are looking for individuals who have teaching experience, love the classroom environment, and are available (sometimes on very short notice) to work during the week.  Knowledge of Waldorf education is a plus. 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Teaching and supervision of students in the event that their regular teacher is unable to lead class. 
  • Manage classroom behavior and follow lesson plans provided by the regular Teacher to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students
  • Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment
  • Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual student
  • Supervise students in and out of the classroom, including in class transitions, and on the playground

Work Setting

  • Classroom and playground environment

Salary and hours:

  • Pay is $25 per hour with a 2-hour daily minimum
  • Timesheets are required to be completed
  • Substitute Teaching hours vary and are contingent on SMWS Faculty absences from the classroom and class needs
  • Calls to Substitute Teach may be made on very short notice – evening and morning hours
  • Substitute hours are based on SMWS need for classroom coverage
