Middle School Program

The Shining Mountain Middle School curriculum is designed to stimulate critical and creative thinking and render experiences that broaden perspectives, build community, and encourage self-expression.

A Focus on Community

Mixed middle school cohorts and grade level classes provide safe and accepting environments for students to learn, grow, and build relationships.

Digital Citizenship

Comprehensive media literacy classes help students become ethical, informed, and positive digital citizens. More information on our Cyber Civics classes can be found here.

Athletics and Adventure

Sports, outdoor education and adventure trips, like river rafting and snow-camping, provide challenges, build resilience, and strengthen bonds between students.

Electives and Arts Integration

Fine, practical, and performing arts enrich and deepen learning. Middle school students participate in arts and music electives of their choosing.

“I feel like one of the really important things that you get out of a Waldorf education is curiosity—curiosity to go and learn and explore what’s out there in the world. I fell into engineering and a path that I don’t think I would have anticipated, but having an arts background where you’re bringing creativity and imagination into problem-solving, there’s a really incredible synergy between those.”
